Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Troubleshooting & Performance Check

Xiser® Trainers are mechanical resistance devices.
Some sounds, sensations, and changes over time are normal — others indicate wear that’s easily addressed.

This guide will help you tell the difference.

“IS THIS NORMAL?”

Hissing or Whooshing Sound

✔ Normal
This is the sound of hydraulic resistance responding to speed and force.

Resistance Feels Lighter When Warm

✔ Normal
Hydraulic resistance changes slightly with temperature.

Slight Pedal Movement Play

✔ Normal within limits
Mechanical systems have tolerance by design.

"Can I lubricate my machine?"

If your machine is making noise, you can try lubricating the connecting parts using a silicone spray (not a spray like WD-40). You may also lift the caps off the pistons and apply a small amount there, but do not spray the pistons directly.

“THIS MAY NEED ATTENTION”

Sudden Loss of Resistance

⚠ Possible worn resistance cylinder

What to check:

  • Compare left vs right pedal feel

  • Look for oil residue near cylinder

Clicking or Knocking

⚠ Likely hardware or linkage issue

Check the alignment and ensure all parts move freely and smoothly on the machine.

  • Pedal bolts

  • Fasteners

  • Linkage alignment

Uneven Resistance Side-to-Side

⚠ Cylinder wear imbalance

Parts That Wear — and How to Address Them

Xiser® Trainers are designed to be serviced, not thrown away.
Most performance changes are normal wear items and can be corrected easily.

PRIMARY WEAR ITEM: RESISTANCE CYLINDERS

When to Replace

  • Resistance no longer matches effort

  • Uneven feel side-to-side

  • Visible leakage (rare)

What Replacement Restores

  • Original resistance profile

  • Smoothness

  • Balance

SECONDARY ITEMS (LONG TERM)

  • Bushings (rare)

  • Fasteners (inspect during service)
